Hillary Clinton needs to get real. The New York Senator and presidential candidate fired off a press release flaming Barack Obama for also wanting to be President. Apparently, Clinton's opposition researchers are working their little hearts out because they came up with gems like these:
In kindergarten, Senator Obama wrote an essay titled 'I Want to Become President.' "Iis Darmawan, 63, Senator Obama's kindergarten teacher, remembers him as an exceptionally tall and curly haired child who quickly picked up the local language and had sharp math skills. He wrote an essay titled, 'I Want To Become President,' the teacher said." [AP, 1/25/07 ]
In third grade, Senator Obama wrote an essay titled 'I Want To Be a President.' His third grade teacher: Fermina Katarina Sinaga "asked her class to write an essay titled 'My dream: What I want to be in the future.' Senator Obama wrote 'I want to be a President,' she said."[The Los Angeles Times, 3/15/07]Kindergarten? We're seriously supposed to be concerned about something Barack Obama wrote in kindergarten? It's odd that in a country where popular sentiment is that any little boy or girl can grow up to become President, wanting to become President as a child is cause for condemnation. Even the more serious points from the Clinton press release are still laughable. For example:
His law school classmates say that Senator Obama has been planning Presidential run for 'more than a decade.' [A]ccording to those who know him, he has been talking about the presidency for more than a decade. "It was clear to me from the day I met him that he was thinking about politics," says Harvard Law School classmate Christine Spurell. [Washington Post, 8/12/07 ]This is Hillary Clinton talking. As in, the same Hillary Clinton that everybody and their dog has known was running for President since 2000. She may be miles ahead in the polls, but if this is the best she can do she's not going to win a delegate.
Thanks to Charlie Burr at blueoregon for turning me on to the story.
